Santa Monica Gateway
Positioned at the threshold between Santa Monica’s Arts District and an adjacent residential neighborhood, this four-story, 140,000-square-foot LEED-certified office development reimagines the commercial workplace as both civic landmark and healthy, inspiring environment. Rather than a singular mass, the concrete-and-glass structure is conceived as a shifting, textured composition, drawing inspiration from the movement and light of nearby ocean waves. Sections of the façade slide past one another through reveals, slots, and cantilevered slab edges, breaking down scale and creating depth, shadow, and visual rhythm. A refined curtain wall of gray-tinted, clear, and lightly reflective glass mitigates heat gain while providing generous twelve-foot-tall windows that flood interiors with daylight and frame expansive views. At street level, transparency and a soaring, light-filled lobby foster an active, pedestrian-friendly presence. Beyond its architectural ambitions, the project reflects a deeper social purpose, with profits supporting charitable initiatives that benefit underserved communities—ensuring the building contributes not only to the skyline, but to the well-being of the city it serves.
